This Mississippi-born songwriter troubadour with
a Springsteen-like voice guided the night through a series of songs and
personal stories that enchanted the Northcote Social Club and widely captivated the audience.
Hearing about his life and where his songs came
from was quite moving but it didn´t feel like he was making a great deal of it at
the same time –“… apart from when I f## up with the heroin and all that…”-.
There is maybe something intriguing about
standing in front of someone who has been in the dark side, while assimilating the
fact that he was ‘actually’ dead in an ambulance for a few minutes.
Sitting on the stage sharing his music, made me
think how lucky he was of being there playing, and for us to be there
listening. But no show of self-pity, just a soiree with a few good songs.
Just keep making good music, John. I was an
amazing show.
Thanks for reading.
