Kel McKeown (AKA Kelpe) is a magician. He somehow sits in
between Justice and Tortoise with a drizzle of Aphex Twin and refreshing bubbly
twist of Daft Punk. A very classy and unpretentious artist I must say.
This London based Music and Video Artist delighted us with
one of the best electronic performances I have seen in a while. Keeping his
performance quite minimal, and with the backup of a projection screen behind
the table, he started with thick chunky beats, introduced some acid and
industrial sounds to it, felt a bit bare for some brave two or three minutes
and smooth it up with the catchy tunes.
The room wasn´t packed but all the ones that were there knew
exactly why they were there. A bit unlucky that there a few more gigs on the
night around town.
Boney (ex-Pony) on the other hand showed it is a venue that
can handle serious acoustics despite the small size. It´s just a good place to
hang out away from the masses. DJs Woody McDonald and Dan Dare were opening the
night and warming up with a few sets and some sampling for the first hour or so.
Not a bad place to spend a Sunday night. Always remember to
rub the ink off your wrist on the way to work on Monday morning.
