Splendorous Daughter

Like every year, the main Australian cities have really interesting sideshows over the couple of weeks around the Spendour in the Grass weekend.

Last Tuesday I enjoyed watching London band 'Daughter', originally a solo project of Elena Tonra now turned into a trio. It was their first-ever time in Australia (as human beings, as she said) and played a few songs from their first-ever released album ‘If You Leave’.

They are really good live. You can have a listen below and get the feel.

Thanks for reading.

TOKiMONSTA

Last week, on the last date of her current tour Jennifer Lee, a.k.a TOKiMONSTA stopped by the Hi-Fi. Fugitive from NZ had a bit of a hard task warming up the venue and charming the crowds before the lady of the night came out. He did an excellent job, I must say.

I hit the dance floor with Mr. Ciaran and ended up being quite a lot of fun. As per usual, a few photos documenting the night.

Thanks heaps to Dr. Watson for the exclusive access.

Interview with ‘As a rival’ (11 July 2013)

This week, our Editor Juan J. Cruz had a quick interview with Jayde Whelan, from Melbourne young and powerful rock trio ‘As a Rival’. Born somehow after a few bedroom rehearsals, they will be touring in July, starting from tomorrow at the Annandale hotel in Sydney. Fun times!

A night at the Hi-Fi

It´s winter time and the music scene is a bit more quiet than usual. It´s the same every year: big names, festivals and sideshows from mid Spring, all the way through Christmas and the fun fading out by April until it kicks out again in September.

Last Thursday night I decided to go down into the city to check a gig at the Hi-Fi. It seems a tradition that every time a certain smartphone brand releases a new model, they organize an event with give-aways, glowsticks and photo boots.

Since I didn´t have any photo submission on the night, I decided to do some gear tests and just brought a pretty light setup, a plastic 50mm lens and a small camera, essentially a weightless kit just to take a couple of snapshots. It didn´t go too bad I think but I won´t use it again unless the stage is really low.

On a side note, I was quite pleased to see that the Hi-Fi is now selling foam earplugs for $2, what would probably save you from having beeping ears following morning or potentially becoming deaf on the long run.

I enjoyed the night and had a couple of drinks for a change. I hope you like the photos.

Thanks for reading.
