Gold Fields

Most Melbournites know ‘the Toff’ pretty well. For those who don´t, it is located on the busy bit of Swantson Street, just before the QV intersection. There is a fair bit going on in that building: Cookie bar on the first floor, with the best selection of beers in Melbourne, including the rare and delicious Canadian Scotch Ales; then on the top, there is one of the most happening Rooftop bars in Melbourne, marvelous spot covered on fake turf, perfect to sip a good ol’ cold pint of cider-. The Toff in Town, on the second level, is divided in a bar and a music venue, and there gather some of the best local artist.

Gold Fields was playing on their last show before heading off to their US tour and one of my friends happened to be taking care of them on the night.

In a nutshell: The room was packed, the show was great and the light engineer was absolutely off his mind. I´ll explain this further: The light guy was so pumped up that was playing DJ with the flash lights. As a consequence of this, we were all on the pit, crunching down, trying to take photos on the verge of an epilepsy attack. It made the experience confusing but somehow it went well with the music. Some photographer with less patience than me, went to the back and tried to reason with this fellow with little success.

To me, the highlight of the night was a cover to Underworld´s ‘Born Slippy’. Just great.

Thanks for reading.
