Last Sunday I went to see Seattle band Earth at
the Corner Hotel. The band, characterized complex and lengthy instrumental
passages, can be partially classified –unfairly in my opinion- in the ‘metal’
category, but i would say that the most interesting of the many labels that apply to them - is ‘drone’.
At the Corner we possibly saw more of the
instrumental harmonic bit –‘post rock’- that connects them to bands such as
Mono or Mogwai and a little bit less of the 'drone' side. Still enjoyable, it was a good gig.
If you feel curious about the 'drone’ sound, check 2007
release of Burning Star Core titled ‘Operator Dead Post Abandoned’, an
overwhelming sequence of a thick suffocating noise, pretty at times and narcotic
for the rest of the album.
Thanks for reading.
