Yellowcard

Last week I went to take some photos of the Californian pop-punk band Yellowcard.
I cannot say much about the actual gig, since all the photographers were kicked out of the venue after a few minutes. Luckily Section-8 is just around the Corner from the Hi-Fi…

Interview with Russian Circles (22-09-12)

Last week Liveinphotos had an exclusive interview with ‘Russian Circles’: Juan J. Cruz, Editor, had a pretty interesting Q/A session with Brian Cook, bass player and former member of the Seattle post hardcore band ‘TheseArms are Snakes’. Read below to see what he has to say.

The drone of Earth

Last Sunday I went to see Seattle band Earth at the Corner Hotel. The band, characterized complex and lengthy instrumental passages, can be partially classified –unfairly in my opinion- in the ‘metal’ category, but i would say that the most interesting of the many labels that apply to them - is ‘drone’.

At the Corner we possibly saw more of the instrumental harmonic bit –‘post rock’- that connects them to bands such as Mono or Mogwai and a little bit less of the 'drone' side. Still enjoyable, it was a good gig.

If you feel curious about the 'drone’ sound, check 2007 release of Burning Star Core titled ‘Operator Dead Post Abandoned’, an overwhelming sequence of a thick suffocating noise, pretty at times and narcotic for the rest of the album.

Chet Faker... recently

Chet Faker @ Revolt Art Space, where he played in two consecutive sold out shows.

Fair enough... They have just been nominated to Five (!) Independent Music Awards. It seems to good to be true, but -to be honest- I could really tell the band was -way!-better than the last time I saw them... even looked like the  bass player has been taking a few lessons.

My only thought is that if you call yourself a 'Melbournite' you should have gone to see them live by now...

Keep an eye on the local dude!

This was six months ago... I saw Chet Faker then and loved the lighting at the Toff.

I went to see them again last week, so keep a eye for more photos over the next few days. If you like his music, you may also like Nicolas Jaar.

A is for Alpine

Alpine was as good as expected : the lights went down and the band delivered a really entertaining performance. With a lot of jumping around, synths and theatrical poses, the audience cruised along the old and new tracks and left the Coner more than content.

I had an interesting chat with a couple of ‘musos’ who happened to be around and praised Alpine’s trajectory. In my opinion, Alpine is one of these bands that is always good to listen, but over the next few years they will have to re-think their sound and move away from their current signature vocals and melodies in order to jump to the next level.

Anyway, you better decide yourself after having a listen to their tracks in their myspace
