When Mudhoney plays in town, most people have a pretty good idea of the kind of show they are going to.

With the expected Bigmuff on Steve´s pedalboard, Mudhoney guys seemed a bit more relaxed than last year –maybe the one year older, maybe saving energies for Splendor- but hey, they still got the regular crowd surfers and I´d say everyone enjoyed every single minute of a show that went for longer than an hour and a half.

What can I say… it was Superfuzzy!

Ladyhawke –or Phillipa Brown, that happens to be her real name- was a pretty pleasant show.

A bit slow at moments, she still managed to engage with the audience and even throw a couple of jokes here and there: “I have a drink with a cucumber in it… it´s fresh”.

With gin-tonics or without them, we definitely listened to a few good anthems on that night. That´s for sure.

We followed the map and ended up at a pretty cool refurbished industrial building in Collingwood. The music was good, people were cheery and some drove for an hour not to miss such a good night. The guys of Castlecomer played well despite the cold and the numb fingers.

On a side note, don´t forget that Ladyhawke will be at the Billboard this Tuesday.

Stay tuned!

To be Sures

On Thursday night I swang by the Northcote social Club with no expectations and pretty much no idea of what kind of band Sures was.

It was a good surprise: even if the venue was half empty, the band played well their few catchy songs and somehow reminded me of those videos from the Blue Album back in the nineties.

Hopefully we keep on hearing from them for the coming years.

Thanks for reading.

Fancy a rooftop gig?

If you are a Melbournite, there are a lot of good reasons to follow this blog.

For example, I could be sharing that there is a free rooftop gig at a secret location in Melbourne. Sounds pretty cool, eh?

Well, Sydney band Castlecomer is ACTUALLY throwing a free rooftop gig this Friday night and they are inviting people to join the party. Only requirement is to contact them through their Facebook page to get the details.

As with everything, allocations will be limited, so hurry up!

Tom Vek

Tom Vek has not been around for that long: just two albums in six years, and the first one taking advantage of the music hype of the mid two thousands.
“Leisure Seizure” is his second LP and maintains the rhythm and simplicity of “We have Sound”, together with his slightly out-of-tune flat singing.
Live it just takes a little bit more to warm up, especially when his compatriots from the opening band don´t reach to arouse the crowd´s interest.
Still, it was a good gig for a Thursday night.
